First of all you need to be correct when correcting others. The OP was completely wrong. How the heck did he get "shadow bow" from "chaos" makes no sense. The jerk was minding his own business and even tried to ignore th OP who was dead wrong, Also the ad while not grammatically correct was clear in meaning. However, he did not have to be so rude to the OP. But it was he who ultimately was assualted with the OP's noobishness/stupidity/arragance (pick one) not the other way around.

Given your conversation and the unprovoked profanity the other player used, I would have taken a screenshot and reported them at Anet. More than likely they would had garnered a ban of some sort.

okay. maybe if I had played a little more often lately I could have guessed that "chaos and storm bow" is supposed to mean chaos axe and storm bow. but given the sentence structure I just happened to read it in the (proper english) "chaos bow and storm bow" way. it didn't come to my mind that he could have left out "axe" for shortening purposes, as due to its already short nature it's maybe not a word I would do that with. I rather thought something like:...hmm...maybe he got the weapon type mixed up, can always happen, I'll just give him a hint on that. and I thought the one thing that would be closest to a "chaos bow" (had he in fact mixed it up) would probably be a shadow bow (could have also been an eternal bow, which I gotta admit I didn't think off at the moment, don't know why). oh and also, I think time spent (trying) to help people, which was my intention, IS usefully spent time.
anyway, in the beginning I didn't even argue about grammar, until I finally unterstood what he meant. and the only reason I did argue then was in order to make him understand why I adressed him in the first place. to maybe calm him down a little bit. had he (with his first whisper) stated something like "I mean a chaos axe" instead of just repeating his trade channel line, I might have gotten what he meant right away and left it at that. and his reaction afterwards was (from my point of view) just a sign of behavior that I for one can't comprehend. (and after all: most of his precious time that got wasted was wasted by himself, mainly by insulting me...count the lines)
anyway, enough justifying and arguing now about such an after all rather insignificant event. it's in the past and I wonder how this thread got so many responses in such a short time anyway.
oh, and: I still think the 1.5 druids gloves look better ;-)

First off one thing i must strongly agree with is how not having all 15k peices doesn't mean you don't have enough cash. I absolutly hate it when people assume this. For example, I was in the desert with my necromancer, whom i have 8k scars for the chest, arms and legs - but for the feet i have 1.5k tormenter boots from drokners. I see someone shouting in all chat "LFR TO ELONA RANCH" "I NEED A RUN TO ELONA RANCH" People start saying "haha you noob, its not called elona ranch" so me trying to be nice, i whisper him.
Me:It's actually called Elona Reach
He runs over to me
Him:How would you know?? You can't even afford a full set of scars for your stuuupid necromancer. you still have dorkners (emphasis on dorkners) boots!
Me :I wasn't trying to attempt a discussion on my armor, now was I? I was trying to help you ask for a run to the proper place.
Him : Yeah you N00berousus, Its called elona ranch.
Me : Well, you have fun getting to good old Elona Ranch then eh?
All i was trying to do is correct him. But now thanks to this guy, when i see a spelling error like that, i just ignore it.
Another situation I had when 'sorda' trying to help someone. I was in beacons perch and I saw someone saying they were running to drokners forge and to pay 1k upfront.
Me: I know people scam runners, But it would be hard to find someone who will pay 1k up front.
Them: I'll run you. 1k upfront, Then 1k when we get to lornars pass.
Me: im not asking for a run...and lornars pass is the warp.
Them: i know where lornars pass is! pay me 1k!!!!
Then they open trade with me and i notice there class and level. A level 9 Elementalist with the armor guild wars graces us with after creating a character.
Me: no offense, but i highly doubt a level 9 elementlist could make this run...
Them: just pay me 1k. I'll get you to droks.
Me: Heres a peice of advice, don't try scamming people who have any sort of knowledge to this game.
Them: Look at you, You stupid Level 20 warrior in your stupid 15k stupid armor dyed STUPID silver. you suck. you don't even know how to run.
Me: Look at you, you Level 9 elementalist in your apprentice armor undyed. you can stop trying to open trade with me now.
Them:At least i have style.
Me: Congratulations.
Them: So are you going to pay me 1k??
Me: again, do not attempt to do your scamming on any person with any knowledge to this game.
Them: Fine, have fun FIGHTING your way to drokners!
Yeah. Most of the only people I am willing to help now are those who approach me in a kind matter or guildies. I'd help anyone on here as well if they needed it
anyhow, aside from my story telling. If i would have saw Selling Chaos and Storm Bow, I would have assumed they were trying to sell a Chaos bow. My best advice is to join me on the do not try to help someone who doesnt ask first club. Let someone else listen to there ranting.

I started out very helpful nine months ago. I helped many people get through the game and felt very good doing it. But I have come across so many scammers and unapreaciative people out there that I lost interest in helping and mostly ignore people now. This kinda makes me sad, because almost all of the friends I've made were people I met while helping them achieve some goal.
I think your heart was in the right place. His meaning was clear to people who have the item to sell, but not to anyone without exposure to Chaos Axes. Even I felt it was vague, and if the mood stuck me, I might have asked him if he wants a chaos axe or somthing new that I haven't heard of, no harm in asking right? But the text doesn't carry tone, and this guy would have been offended and rude no matter how you approached it. Probably some sort of underlying issue... who cares, 90% of people are worthless, and he is shining proof.
Even so, his reaction was wrong and if you saved the screen shot I say get him banned. I have never reacted that way to anyone and will never react that way. If you can get rid of him, we are all better off.
And my GOD... you people really exsist? Lol. Thought my wife was the only one who would care that much about grammar...

That's me! I'm mentioned in a post on the forums? wow! lol. By the way sweetie...it's "unappreciative."
Anyway, I AM a bit anal about grammar, and mostly I let it go when I see the stupid way some people talk on GW. I try to convince myself they're typos instead (ok, not always realistic), but in this instance I absolutely agree. He wasn't correcting him to be a self-righteous jerk, he was honestly trying to help not only the guy trying to buy something, but the people seeing that and possibly selling that item. There was no reason for the guy to flip out. On a side note, I have to ask because this is a huge pet peeve of mine lately...was the guy using the trade channel? I can't believe the number of people who don't use the trade channel, and this happens in every city. One time (after just getting so frustrated) I whispered someone and said they might have better luck in the trade channel and maybe they should use that...and they replied with, "why?" Why???? Because that's what it's there for! Because it allows people to not watch trades, or identify something as a WTS/WTB to see if that's what they're looking for! Ugh, just had to vent. Also, it's heartening to know that there ARE good spellers and grammatically correct people on GW. I'm sure I'll recognize you guys in the game.

With no time to waste she corrects me... lol.
I've formed my guild with people who like to play the game alone, but still want to have reliable people to help out and sometimes talk to.
I try and recruit every once in a while with "casual pve guild looking for loners and sarcastic members," but mostly I see people wanting guilds that are "active" or who pvp alot. I'm actually incredibly active, 1000+ hours, but I don't think it's right for a guild to pressure you into anything. I'm just happy to see that there are people out there who also like some privacy, but aren't completely turned off to NICE people.
EDIT: Wife caught spelling errors... lol.

These idiots are present in every single online game involving mass amounts of people.
It's a constant struggle, trust me.
I still play the DoTA mod for Warcraft 3 and if you think Guild Wars is bad for the sanity of a mature adult go try playing DoTA where you are on a team of random people and you figure out that the entire other team is comprised of 15 year olds from the same high school talking s*** and ruining any sort of fun you may be having.
That alone drives me absolutely crazy. Then I have the nerve to wonder why I'm one of the few people over 25 who even bother to play Warcraft 3 and it's mods.
:P

This is exactly why I only offer help when it's asked for. And people never ask for help with their grammar, heh.
That armor combination is great, by the way. Though for my ranger I actually prefer the full Droknar's set without any of the 15k.

don't let people like that get you down, your gonna find people like that in every MMO and online game. I once was in a HA pug when the leader of our party starting saying some bad things to the other team i finally told him to shut up and he said that is part of online games to make them fun. Some people think like that even though they would never dare to be like that in real life.
BTW I personally love that ranger combo over the entire 15k druids the boots make it look much better.

i cringe each time i read a post or in-game blurb that has bad grammar or spelling because i spent my life being corrected by my english-teaching mother.
too many people in GW chat like they play the game. always in a hurry to get to the next idea or fight. i wish everyone would slow down a bit.
anyway, don't stop helping people. i do most of my helping in pre-searing. new players seem to appreciate the help a lot more than the uber gaming twerps who think they know all in post-searing.

My question is......Why did you bother trying to correct him in the first place? Most people don't like being corrected, and if you were there to look for a pug to do some questing, then it seem that you lost focus of your goals for the evening.
I'm sure your intentions were good, but maybe you should save yourself the effort and just offer your help to people that ask for it. If the guys not asking for help, then he probably doesn't want any.
I'm sure if this were a face to face encounter in the real world things would have gone down differently. Welcome to the Internet!
